Why reduce image file size?
Large images are the number-one cause of slow web pages. A single uncompressed photo from a modern phone can be 5–10MB, which is enough to make a page crawl on mobile data. Compressing that image down to a few hundred kilobytes can cut your page load time dramatically and improve your Google ranking, because page speed is a confirmed ranking factor.
Smaller images also matter outside the web. Email providers cap attachments (often at 25MB), messaging apps re-compress anything you send, and government or job portals frequently reject files over a set size. Reducing the size first puts you in control of the quality instead of letting another service degrade it.
